The Secrets of Influence and

Persuasion Tactics

The definition of influence goes something like this:

INFLUENCE IS THE ACT OF GETTING COMPLIANCE WITHOUT EXERTING FORCE.

The expert influence practitioner hardly need to strain a muscle! He only needs to know how to trigger our automatic compliance buttons and we are done for.

Anyone wanting to influence anybody, all you have to do is to take advantage of the great stores of influence that already exist in the situation and turn it towards the intended target.

Persuasion - Influence Factors

In our daily lives we are bombarded with persuasive messages. To buy, vote, change our beliefs. We watch 1,550 hours of TV a year, spend 290 hours reading newspapers and listen to 1160 hours of radio every year.

Each day you will have seen 100 TV ads. (Mr. Kelton, Ph.D Arizona State University)

We also interact with people all day and most of the night. We deal with people at home, at work and socially. Constantly trying to get what we want.

It's a funny thing, I have figured out that everything I want in life I don't have, someone else has possession of. If I want to make more money, I either have to earn it, steal it or borrow it. From someone else.

My new car sits at the dealership, who right now owns it. My boss can give me more money, a better job or the pink slip. People, people, people everywhere.

I also figured out that if I could understand, and be able to use persuasion tactics I'd get more.

Major universities have studied for many years the phenomena of social influence. What makes us give in to advertising and sales pitches? Even if we deep inside don't need everything we buy, we still give in!

My background is quite varied. I have worked for major corporations such as NCR, 3M, Wang and V-Tech, mostly in sales and marketing positions. It has always intrigued me what really makes people comply with requests. Why do they really make a decision, even when the decision probably shouldn't have been made. What prompts people to act on the spur of the moment when they should really take the time to study the product?  Travel to Australia! Travelcenter.com

Why is it that basic transportation all of a sudden becomes a need to buy a Grand Cherokee for $40,000? Or, look at the latest Bre-X fraud in Canada. Why did thousands of investors buy shares in spite of many and obvious warning signals? Are we a bunch of non-thinking followers? For the most part, YES.

Most people are also not aware of the psychological principles behind influence tactics.

These tactics can be used in any situation where you need to influence others to see things your way.  Most web sites totally ignore these factors. Be different, SELL on the web. Not just have a cool site.
